Ripples Mural Artist Open Call

The Ripples Project is an initiative between The City of Providence and TAC to support local businesses and regional artists in the form of Public Art.

We are looking for a local artist interested in creating a mural on the corner of Dean St and Westminster St, in 2025.  The Avenue Concept is stewarding a City wide public art initiative that includes the Ripples Open Call Mural as well as other city-wide art-programming. In addition to being our first mural through an open call beyond our Weybosset Facade, TAC is also ensuring that the selection committee represents the community by inviting our Ripples Curatorial Fellows to curate this facade. This means that the artist for this mural will be selected by a cohort of local artists and leaders from the community.

Project Timeline:

  • April 4, 2025: Deadline for submitting your portfolio to the Ripples Mural Open Call.
  • May 9th, 2025: Notifications of artist selection sent out by this date.
  • After the artist has been notified, there is a creative and logistics phase with TAC Mural Manager.
  • Installation will occur over up to 7 consecutive days in either May or June of 2025.

Mural will be completed by June 27th, 2025. Celebrate!

Please note: as part of this project, supported by the City of Providence, the selected artist needs to agree to be available to conduct one full restoration of the mural, in the case of total damage before March, 2027. Should this occur, there is a separate stipend of $500 provided. Logistics and materials would be provided by TAC.

What is offered:

Experience the curatorial expertise of our mural manager to create a piece that resonates with you and that centers your creative process. We do not take any artist’s rights to murals and also offer:

  • An artist stipend of $3300 (sq ft x $10)
  • All materials provided by TAC
  • On-site support, safety, and security from an experienced member of the TAC team
  • Daily food per diem

Logistics and contracting are handled by TAC.

What is required:

This is a great opportunity for the right artist. This is someone who is:

  • Able to install artwork within 7 consecutive days in the allocated time period (June 2025)
  • Able to commit to return and restore the mural in the case of a total loss, should this occur before March 2026
  • Over the age of 18
  • Able to invoice for services rendered
  • Allowed to work in the US
  • Located within 60 minutes of Providence (we are unfortunately not able to provide accommodations).
