The Four Elements

For this box, I was inspired by the Four Elements: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. These elements can be found in several traditions around the world and often help people understand truths of the world around us and within our own human experience. As I reflected on each of these elements, I interpreted their presence in my own life and upbringing.

Much like a growing FIRE, passion and inspiration can spread through the art of storytelling and transform the world. The EARTH shares its stability, just as our communities do; so much support can be found in those that are intergenerational and diverse.  WATER is a reminder to reflect on our deep connection to nature. As Rumi said, “You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.”  Finally, as AIR brings change, it is important to listen to our dreams, since they help envision the future. 

About the Artist: Based in Providence, LUMUKU takes a holistic approach to making the world a brighter place by uplifting the individual, sparking interpersonal connections, and strengthening community bonds. LUMUKU characters can be found in silkscreen prints and language learning card games, to public art installations and everywhere in between.
